Rains began the 2014 season with the Gulls as a temporary player, and stayed right through the playoffs as the team's bullpen catcher.

The RIC Anchorman is a native of North Kingstown, R.I., where as a 2003 graduate of North Kingstown High School he earned Second-Team All-Division honors.

A marketing major, Rains plays for RIC Head Coach Scott Virgulak, a former pitching coach for several years under Mike Coombs for the Newport Gulls.

This spring at RIC, Rains appeared in 13 games, starting 12 of them, collecting five hits, five walks, and three RBI.
