For Hughes and other South Jersey ball players, they took advantage of playing not only in their home state, but also relatively close to their hometowns last summer. The Sewell, New Jersey native was a part of the newly added South Jersey Giants in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League. Hughes was one of twenty-one south Jersey players on the roster. For the left-handed hitter, the 2014 summer was successful, pacing the Giants in batting average with a .361 contact clip and team leading 24 RBI.
