Wegman finished his first season this spring at USC. The California native appeared in five games with the Trojans, all out of the bullpen. In five innings pitched, he did not garner a decision for USC, holding a 5.40 ERA. 

Before USC, Wegman was a three-year letterman at Great Oak High School for head coach Eric Morton. He was named to the 2014 Perfect Game California All-Region First Team and rated the No. 28 player in California and the No. 162 player in the country by Perfect Game. Wegman was also named MVP of the Southwest League while playing for Great Oak. 

Other accolades for Wegman include: 2013 Underclass Third Team All-American; member of the 2013 New York Yankees Area Code Team; played for the 2013 Milwaukee Brewers Scout Team; named the 2013 Southwest League Pitcher of the Year; participated in the 2013 Perfect Game National Showcase; selected to the All-Southwest League in 2012 and 2013; and played in the 2012 Perfect Game Jr. National Showcase.
