Fuesser, a native of York, South Carolina, was drafted twice in his young career by the Atlanta Braves in the 19th round of the 2008 MLB June Amateur Draft from York High School and by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 34th round of the 2009 amateur draft out of Walters State Community College (Tennessee).

Last year, Fuesser pitched his fifth year in the Pirates minor league system as he tossed the entire 2013 season from the bullpen for the Class-A Advanced Bradenton Marauders of the Florida State League. In 68 innings, he posted a 3.18 ERA, tallied 52 strikeouts and earned three saves.

As a freshman at Walters State Community College in Morristown, TN, Fusser appeared in his only season at the collegiate level. The southpaw had a 5-2 record, complete with four saves and a 4.35 ERA in 19 games. Fuesser also struck out 60 batters in 49 2/3 innings of work while limiting his opponents to a .222 batting average.
