Scanlon returns for a second summer with the Mallards in 2011 after appearing in 18 games a season ago and having posted an impressive .314 batting average, 11 runs scored, and nine RBI. He played at nearby Madison College for two years before transferring to Michigan State this fall. Last year for the Wolfpack, Scanlon led the team in hits (76), doubles (14), and stolen bases (27). He is expected to be named the Spartans starting shortstop this spring. "I'm so excited to return to play in front of all of the fans at the new 'Duck Pond,'" said Scanlon. "I learned last summer that you need to be prepare yourself both mentally and physically throughout the grueling schedule, and I feel confident that I'll continue to get better."

Labbe stated just how important it is to sign local players to a team that has such a wide age-range of fans like the Mallards. "It's always great for an organization, both at the amateur and professional levels, to sign local players because kids want their autographs, newspaper writers and television reporters want their quotes, and parents can point to these individuals as great examples of what hard work can bring," said Labbe.
