In his freshman year at Rollins College (Winter Park, Florida), Burket appeared in six games as a pitcher and 17 games in the field. In 18 2/3 innings, he struck out 12.

Offensively, five of Burket’s 10 hits were doubles. He scored 5 runs on the year and hit in another 6. Burket stole 3 bases on four attempts.

Prior to his time at Rollins, Burket was homeschooled and he played for Central Florida Christian Academy. He was named the MVP of that school twice, and he was named to the First-Team All-District list his senior year, as he led his school to a district championship.
