Eduardo “Eddie” Dennis returns for his second consecutive season after spending 2008 in retirement. He managed the WhiteWings to a 39-41 record in 2009, missing the playoffs by half of one game.

The 50 year-old served as manager of the WhiteWings from 1998-2000, when the club was part of the Texas-Louisiana League, and again from 2006-07. Dennis led the WhiteWings to the league championship in 2000, finishing the regular season with a 63-49 record before going on to defeat San Angelo 2-1 in their first round playoff series and Amarillo 3-1 in the championship series.

Dennis returned to the Dominican Republic after the 2000 season before coming back to Clearwater in 2002. He spent 2008 in Clearwater as well.

After being drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays organization in 1977, he played eight seasons of minor league baseball before moving on to coaching. From 1978 to 1985, Dennis, a second baseman, compiled an overall batting average of .261 in almost 3,000 at-bats in Class A and AA ball.

Dennis has come back to professional baseball largely due to the presence of United League Chief Operating Officer Byron Pierce.

“Byron and I have been friends for a long time,” Dennis stated. “He’s the reason why I’m here. In 2000, our league let him go, and that’s the reason I left.”

Dennis currently owns a business in Clearwater – Hall of Fame Furniture and Décor, and he coaches a 14-over AAU baseball team. He also has five children. He got married on the field to the former Julie Corliss right before the opening day game on May 8, 2007.

Dennis has a career-managerial record of 324-362, including a 271-273 mark in six seasons with the WhiteWings and 127-138 in the United League.
