Steve Montgomery, widely known as "Mongo," will mark his 11th season with the Explorers in 2025. He is the winningest manager in team history, leading the Explorers to the playoffs in seven of his 10 seasons, including finals appearances in 2015 and 2019. Montgomery's teams are built around strong pitching and speed. They consistently make the playoffs and led the league in stolen bases with 200 in 2024. Under Montgomery, the Explorers have a history of finishing strong, with a .565 winning percentage in August over the last five seasons. He enters 2025 with a 553-446 (.554) regular-season record. His 2015 team holds the record for most league wins in a season at 75. Montgomery became the winningest manager in Explorers history on July 22, 2022, with his 427th win. Montgomery began his coaching career in 2004 as a pitching coach with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and served as the pitching coach for North Dakota State University. He played nine seasons in professional baseball, reaching Triple-A in 1997. Originally from Ohio, Montgomery resides in Sioux City and is an outspoken supporter of the Siouxland community. He is an avid hockey fan and hosts summer baseball clinics to promote youth baseball in Sioux City. |
