Grant hit .235 (16-68) in 48 games as a junior at San Diego, with three doubles, seven RBIs and three steals in four attempts.
He returns for his second season with the Knights after a solid 2013 summer. He hit .280 (37-132) with no homers and 12 RBIs in 54 total games, led the WCL in steals (26), set a team record with 31 total steals, and was honorable-mention all-WCL.
A graduate of Claremont High School in Claremont, Calif., Grant hit .167 (1-6) with no homers or RBIs and played mainly as a late-game defensive replacement at the University of San Diego in 2013. He played in nine games as a USD freshman in 2012, scored two runs, and was hitless in his only at-bat.
A four-year starter at Claremont High, Grant hit .300 or better every season, was the team MVP as a freshman and earned team Defensive Player of the Year honors as a junior and senior before signing with the Torrerros.
His older brother, Adam Melker, starred for the Knights in 2008 and 2009 while at Cal Poly. Adam played for Springfield in the double-A Texas League in the St. Louis Cardinals' minor-league system in 2013.
