Dillon Checkal is a freshman infielder for the University of San Diego Toreros. In his first year for USD, Checkal went 22-for-58 compiling a .423 average with two doubles, and three RBI. In the field the freshman had 24 putouts and two assists, while committing no errors. A native of San Diego, California, Checkal hit .400 with a .631 on-base percentage, one home run and only one strikeout during his senior year at Santa Fe Christian High School. Earned both team MVP and Coastal League Player of the Year honors as a senior. Hit .381 as a junior. Joins Torero teammate Ben Burmeister on the Sanford Mainers this summer.
