Infielder Erik Harbutz will join the Bay Sox in 2010 coming from Wichita State University. Harbutz, a 6’, 170 pound freshman, previously attended Northwest High School in Wichita, Kansas.
During high school, Harbutz lettered four years in baseball and two years in basketball. In baseball, he was named first team all-state, first team all-league, and first team all-Metro in 2009. He was also named second team all-state in 2008.
As a senior, Harbutz scored 33 runs and had 35 hits (11 doubles, two triples, and two home runs) and 32 RBIs. Batting .565 for the season, he was named the 2009 league batting champion.
“Erik’s a switch hitter who can cover both sides of the infield,” said Bay Sox General Manager Kirk Fredriksson, “He’s one of those guys whose versatility will be a huge asset for us this season.”
Harbutz was a member of the team that was league and regional champions and a state 6A participant during his senior season. Named a Kansas Regents Honors Scholar, Harbutz was also a member of both the honor roll and the National Honor Society.
