Gary Gaetti enters his fourth season as the skipper for the Sugar Land Skeeters after receiving a three-year contract extension in January of 2014. In his three years at the helm of the Skeeters, Gaetti has led Sugar Land to a 239-181 (.569) record with playoff appearances the last two seasons. The 2013 campaign rewrote the record books in the Atlantic League after a 95-45 season where Gaetti was named the Atlantic League Manager of the Year in just the team’s second season. Last season, Sugar Land advanced to the Atlantic League Championship after an 80-60 campaign before bowing out in the decisive fifth game to Lancaster.


A veteran of 20 Major League seasons as a player with Minnesota (1981-90), California (1991-93), Kansas City (1993-95), St. Louis (1996-98), Chicago-NL (1998-99) and Boston (2000), the Illinois native boasts two Major League Baseball All-Star nominations (1988-89), four Rawlings Gold Glove Awards (1986-89) and a 1987 American League Championship Series MVP Award. In 2,507 career Major League games, Gaetti holds a .255 average with 360 home runs and 1,341 RBI while accounting for more than 2,200 hits.


 


Following his playing career, Gaetti began coaching in 2002 as a member of the minor league New Orleans Zephyrs’ staff. In 2004, he was appointed hitting coach of the Houston Astros and served in that role until 2006, when he became a hitting coach for the minor league Durham Bulls.
