Eric Hoffman, a familiar name for Honkers fans, will return to Rochester in 2009 as the coach in charge of hitters and outfielders, as well as serving as first base coach. Hoffman was with the Honkers in 2005 and on the 2006 NWL Championship team, not as a coach but as a player, who saw time both in the outfield and on the mound. The left-handed pitcher made 12 appearances on the mound, striking out 13 in only 11.0 innings pitched for the 2006 squad, while also hitting .248 with 8 doubles and 16 RBI. Currently Hoffman is an assistant coach at the University of North Dakota. Prior to coaching, the Erskine, Minnesota native was a 2007 Missouri Valley Conference honorable mention as an outfielder for the University of Northern Iowa. He finished the season with the Panthers second on the team with a .342 batting average, 55 hits and 31 RBI. In 2004 and 2005, he was named to the all-region first team and all-district first team while playing for Iowa Central Community College. After completing his collegiate career, Hoffman played independent baseball for the Sioux City Explorers (2007) and the Rockford Riverhawks (2008). |
