Mantle, who hails from north of the border in Surrey, British Columbia, went 5-1 with a 3.72 ERA in 11 appearances (nine starts) as a junior at URI this spring. Mantle allowed just 19 runs (16 earned) on 38 hits with 12 walks and 26 strikeouts in 38.2 innings of work.
The right-hander transferred to URI from Walters State Community College, where he was a force to be reckoned, going 7-1 with a 3.05 and 57 strikeouts over 42 innings as a sophomore in 2012. Mantle struck out 12 and carried his team to a victory in the 2012 TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII championship game last season as Walters State Community College finished the season as the No. 1 ranked team in the nation. Mantle helped lead the Senators to a 95-26 record in two seasons with the program.
