Daniel Nelson begins his first season in El Paso as well as his first in independent baseball in 2012.  The 5’11, 180 lbs, infielder from Los Angeles, California, was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 25th round of the 2002 draft and the St. Louis Cardinals in the 13th round of the 2004 draft out of Los Angeles Pierce College.  Nelson began his career in 2004 with the Rookie level Johnson City Cardinals of the Appalachian League and moved to the Low A New Jersey Cardinals of the New York-Pennsylvania League in 2005.  In 2006, Nelson moved to the A level Swing of the Quad Cities of the Midwest League before playing for the High A Palm Beach Cardinals of the Florida State League in 2007 and 2008.  In 2008, he signed with the Florida Marlins and played for their High A affiliate, the Jupiter Hammerheads.  In 2009, Nelson signed with the Washington Nationals and split time with the High A Potomac Nationals of the Carolina League and the Double A Harrisburg Senators of the Eastern League before signing with the Atlanta Braves and moving within the Braves organization, making it as high as Triple A with eh Gwinnett Braves of the International League in 2010.  Nelson again saw time in Triple A in 2011 with Gwinnett before joining the Diablos in 2012.  In eight seasons of professional baseball, Nelson has competed in 689 games, scored 380 runs, and collected 626 hits including 127 doubles, 14 triples, 35 home runs and 303 RBIs.  His career stat line is .263/.353/.373 and he holds a career fielding percentage of .926 while being used in both the infield and outfield.
