Topa redshirted for the Long Island Blackbirds in his third season with the team in 2012. His sophomore year with the squad in 2011 he made 14 appearances, making 11 starts and compilled a 6-7 record with a 4.46 ERA. In 2010 he made 12 starts for the Blackbirds, posting a 4.67 ERA. While in high school Topa was a member of the 2009 Diamond Nation 18-and-under Blue Chip Prospect East Coast Championship team, and was named the team’s Most Valuable Pitcher.
