After suffering through back-to-back season-costing injuries during his first year on campus, redshirt freshman Julian Santos has worked his way into the Miami lineup this season and will be another prospect for the SteepleCats outfield ranks this summer, joining two other Hurricane players in North Adams.
Santos appeared in 29 games while earning 11 starts, totaling 12 hits with a .315 slugging percentage and six runs scored for Miami in 2012. He also launched three doubles and a triple while going 2-for-2 on the base paths. Santos registered just one at-bat as a freshman before losing his rookie year to injury.
A product of head coach Angel Herrera at Killian Senior High School in Miami, Santos played centerfield for the Cougars as a senior, batting .446 with 30 RBI, four homers and 30 stolen bases while scoring 40 runs. He was named First Team All-Miami-Dade County and earned an All-Region first team selection.
The son of Raul and Lourdes Santos, Julian has an older brother, Raul Santos Jr., and he is related to Oscar Cartaya, Sr. who played for the Detroit Tigers organization. Santos is pursuing a degree in Sports Administration.
