If there is one spot on the field the Beetles would enjoy consistency, it would be at shortstop.  Finding an everyday player to man short has been tough over the last couple years, but the Beetles may have found their guy in Vance Albitz.  The junior from UCSD has won an NCAA Rawlings Gold Glove in each of his first two collegiate seasons.  A team leader on defense and offense, Albitz led the Tritons in 2008 with 27 multi-hit games and also recorded 12 multi-RBI games.  Last spring, Albitz was once again among the team leaders in batting average, doubles, and RBI, while boasting a walk to strikeout ratio of nearly two to one.  The Beetles have three shortstops on the roster this season, but Albitz seems like the probable candidate to take over the position when he arrives.  Alexandria knows he will miss opening day, but the team expects Albitz to arrive once classes end for the year.
