Michael will bring some real versatility to the Honkers pitching staff this summer, as the left-handed Hawaiian is able to pitch effectively either from the bullpen or as a starter. He made just one start for UNLV in 2009, along with 14 relief appearances, but finished with the fourth-best ERA on the team at 6.29 and struck out 20 in 24.1 innings. Michael has proven his ability to pitch well no matter where he is, dating back to high school. He lettered in baseball all four years, but did so in three different countries: the United States (Hawaii), Japan (Okinawa) and South Korea (Seoul). Michael was also named the Stars and Stripes baseball player of the year while in high school. His brother, John, played baseball at George Mason University.
