24-year-old left-hander Ben DeTaeye joins the Explorers after three seasons with the Iowa Hawkeyes, where he made 51 appearances (4 starts) and struck out 100 batters over 71.2 innings. He posted a 4.77 ERA and a 4-6 career record, including a senior year with 51 strikeouts in 35 innings.


DeTaeye excelled in summer collegiate ball. In 2023, he tossed 14.1 scoreless innings for the Clinton LumberKings, striking out 15 and allowing just four hits. He followed that up with a dominant stint in Alaska, going 2-0 with a 1.24 ERA, 31 strikeouts, and a 0.931 WHIP for the Mat-Su Miners.


He began his college career at Iowa Central as a two-way player, posting a 2.08 ERA and hitting .242 with 29 RBI in 2021.


 


A native of Clive, Iowa, DeTaeye starred at West Des Moines Valley, earning All-State honors and leading his team to a state semifinal in 2018.
