Tahnaj Thomas, a 26-year-old right-handed pitcher from Freeport, Bahamas, joined the Sioux City Explorers in 2025 after being acquired from the Milwaukee Milkmen on August 22. The hard-throwing righty appeared in 28 games for Milwaukee this season, posting a 5.23 ERA with 34 strikeouts over 31 innings. Originally signed by Cleveland as a shortstop in 2016 after impressing scouts in an impromptu pitching appearance, Thomas transitioned to the mound and was later traded to Pittsburgh in 2018. His breakout came in 2019 with Rookie Advanced Bristol, where he struck out 59 batters in 48.1 innings and touched 101 mph for the first time.


 


Thomas went on to start with High-A Greensboro in 2021 before excelling as a reliever in Double-A Altoona, where he posted a 3.02 ERA with 52 strikeouts and three saves in 2022 and returned in 2023 for 36 appearances. He signed with Milwaukee in February 2024 and continues to flash an upper-90s fastball complemented by a slurve and changeup. A member of Great Britain’s 2023 World Baseball Classic roster, the 6’4” righty brings power, resilience, and international experience to Sioux City’s pitching staff, poised to make an immediate impact in his first season with the Explorers.
