A rookie who made his collegiate debut with the Owls on February 19 against Monmouth, Murphy figures to not only be a big part of what the Bats want to accomplish this summer, but also the FAU program moving forward. He has struck out 30 over his first 27.2 collegiate innings (16 appearances, two starts), making his debut on February 19 with a scoreless inning and two strikeouts againstMonmouth. Murphy struck out four in his next outing against South Florida, and also pitched a season-high four frames and whiffed four against Charlotte on May 6. He has recorded a K in all but two of his outings. A Palm City, Florida native, Murphy’s father Tommy also played at FAU (98-00) and was drafted by the Angels in the 3rd round of the 2000 MLB Draft (played 2006-07).
