Nathan Foriest joins Fargo-Moorhead for his third year of independent baseball and his second in the American Association. Foriest played with the Kansas City T-Bones in 2019 (0-1, 5.84 ERA) and with the Evansville Otters in the Frontier League in 2018 (0-1, 27.00 ERA). This will be his twelfth team since he made his professional debut with the AZL Padres on June 23, 2015.
Foriest, originally from Kingston Springs, Tenn., attended Harpeth High School and Ensworth High School before going to Middle Tennessee State beginning in 2011. Although he did not appear in any games until 2012 (his redshirt freshman season), he made 58 appearances in his four seasons at MTSU, going 6-8 with a 6.32 ERA and seven saves. In his final year with the Blue Raiders Foriest was 3-1 with six saves in 24 appearances.
After his senior season, Foriest was drafted in the 35th round (1,047th overall) by the San Diego Padres. He was originally assigned to the Arizona League Padres but was moved to both Lake Elsinore and the Tri-City Dust Devils that same year. He exited the minor leagues in March of 2017 with a record of 3-1 and a 2.91 ERA. He pitched 58.2 innings in his two years in the minors, and struck out 70 batters compared to the 41 he walked.
In his career, Foriest is 9-11 with a 5.23 ERA in 170.1 innings pitched. He has a WHIP of 1.738 with 175 strikeouts, 134 walks, and 12 saves.
