Mitchem led the Flyers with a 2.11 ERA in the 2011 regular season. Burny compiled a 8-2 record. He recorded 83 k's, but still lost his single season strike out record. Burny tossed his first career shutout on April 6, blanking Xavier. He struck out six Musketeers in his third consecutive complete game. This performance earned Mitchem A-10 Pitcher of the Week honors. He had three saves, while working as the team's closer. He spent last summer with the Orleans Cardinals of the Cape Cod League along with teammate Cameron Hobson. Burny delivered in the Northeast with a 2.41 ERA. He struckout 25 batters and won three games. In 2010, Burny started 15 games and made one relief appearance. He broke Hobson's single season strikeout record with 86 k's. On the year, Micthem tallied a 6.27 ERA with a 6-7 record as he bounced back from an injury that ended his initial sophomore season. In his rookie year with the Flyers, he pitched 22 games in relief. Burny completed the season with a team low 2.06 ERA in over 39 innings. Despite appearing in relief, he still finished second on the team with 61 strikeouts. In the summer of 2008, Mitchem pitched with the Columbus All Americans. He earned Great L akes League Player of the Week honors, when he threw a no hitter.
