The SwampBats are proud to announce the return of one their former assistant coaches, Shaun McKenna, to the position of Associate Head Coach. McKenna served as the hitting instructor and first base coach for the Bats in 2004 and 2005 under Keene native and former head coach Mike Sweeney. “I really enjoy working with the kind of talented players that make up the NECBL and there is no place like Keene when it comes to the total summer collegiate baseball package. I am truly proud to be part of this great organization once again.” 

Like Coach Calhoun, McKenna has a championship pedigree as a play- er dating back to his 1997 Division III national title team at the Uni- versity of Southern Maine. Shaun has an extensive college coaching resume, which includes time at Marshall University before he spent the past season on the staff of his alma mater, Southern Maine. Addition- ally, McKenna has coached at St. Anselm College, Castleton University and Ranger Junior College in Texas. He also brings summer collegiate baseball experience to the SwampBats via his 2018 role as director of operations for the Virginia Beach Collegiate League and as head coach of the league’s Virginia Beach Waves. 

“It is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to coach alongside Gary Calhoun. His reputation for guiding teams to championships and helping players reach the professional level is well known throughout the U.S. I am excited to be part of his staff,” remarked Shaun. 

The SwampBats are in good hands entering their 22nd season of base- ball at Alumni Field.
