Olson is entering his first year with the Mallards. He played high school ball at Chino Valley (AZ) High School, where he was named to the all-conference team three times and won conference and area player of the year during his senior season. After high school, Olson pitched and played in the outfield for Armstrong Atlantic State University after playing two seasons at Yavapai Community College. The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Olson in the 17th round of the 2000 MLB Amateur Draft. His last appearance as a player came in 2009 as a member of the Long Island Ducks in the Atlantic League under former big leaguer and hall-of-famer Gary Carter. Jason is the current head coach at Wooster High School in Reno, Nevada and is an instructor for the Silver State Sports Camps.
