Borchard joins the Bluefish for his first season in the Atlantic League and 12th of professional baseball. Last year, the former Major Leaguer played for the Fresno Grizzlies (AAA) of the San Francisco Giants organization. In 125 games with Fresno he recorded a .263 batting average with 17 home runs, 26 doubles, and 64 RBI over the course of 422 at-bats.

The 32-year-old was drafted as the 12th overall pick in the 2000 amateur draft by the Chicago White Sox and made his Major League debut two years later following an impressive stint in the minors. He was later traded to the Seattle Mariners for Matt Thornton in 2006 and was acquired via waivers by the Florida Marlins the same season. The switch-hitter’s best year in the big leagues came that season with the Marlins, where in 108 games, he slugged 10 home runs and drove in 28 runs in 230 at-bats. During six seasons in the Majors, Borchard has recorded 26 home runs, 77 RBI and 89 runs scored over the course of 301 games.
