Phillips joins Long Island with 10 seasons of professional baseball experience. He reached the Major Leagues in 2007 with the Chicago White Sox, posting a 1-1 record with a 3.68 ERA in six games. The lefty spent the 2010 season as a member of the Triple-A Durham Bulls in the Tampa Bay Rays organization, going 8-7 with a 4.07 ERA in 24 games, all starts.

The Indiana native’s best season came in 2006 with Triple-A Charlotte in the White Sox organization. In 25 games (24 starts), Phillips posted 13 wins, a 2.96 ERA, and two complete games, all good for second in the International League. He led the league with 13 wins the following season for Charlotte before earning the call-up to the Major Leagues. For his minor league career, the 29-year-old has a record of 79-80 with a 4.05 ERA and 897 strikeouts in 261 games (217 starts). Phillips was originally drafted by the White Sox in the 10th round of the 2000 amateur entry draft.
