A slick fielding infielder from the University of The Incarnate Word, Gonzalez earned four letters in baseball at Mary Carroll High School. He earned first team all-district and academic all-district honors as a junior and senior at shortstop. He took home Third Team All-State and Academic All-State honors as a senior, leading the team in batting average and steals. As a freshman at Incarnate Word in 2016, Gonzalez grabbed the leadoff spot in the lineup and the starting second base job, scoring 19 runs, hitting 2 doubles and swiping 5 bags while hitting .204 in 44 games. Last year, the sophomore’s numbers improved across the board, slashing .271/.363/.354 with 3 doubles, a triple and a home run. In 2018 as a junior, Gonzalez once again proved a reliable threat in the lineup, slashing .297/.385/.407 with a career-high 9 doubles, 2 triples, and 2 home runs. He also drove in 32 and stole 7 bags.
