Waterloo brings back Danny Kapala after providing serviceable relief innings for the team in 2017. A graduate of Eastview High School, Kapala played four seasons and started three as a pitcher, first baseman, and outfielder. Following his senior season in 2017, he was ranked the #17 overall prospect and #3 left-handed pitcher in Minnesota by Prep Baseball Report and slotted in at #25 overall in Minnesota and #185 nationally by Perfect Game. He was named a 2017 Rawlings-Perfect Game All-Central Region Honorable Mention and earned All-South Suburban Conference selections during his final two seasons with the Lightning program. Kapala received an All-State selection as a senior and back-to-back All-Section honors as a junior and a senior. The southpaw was named to the Star Tribune‘s All-Metro Team in 2017. He served as team captain during his senior campaign, being named the team’s Most Valuable Player and Pitcher. Kapala also played two seasons of hockey as a defenseman. Last summer he threw 12.2 innings out of the Bucks bullpen, posting a 5.68 ERA, a 1.342 WHIP, a 21.1% K rate, a 5.3% BB rate, and a .264 batting average against in 12 appearances. This spring as a true freshman for the University of Minnesota Gophers, he struck out 3 over 1.1 frames.
