Gumbs begins his first year as the Skeeters’ third-base and hitting coach on manager Pete Incaviglia’s staff. Gumbs began his professional career in 1990 after being selected by the Houston Astros in the 27th round of the MLB Draft out of Clark College (Dubuque, Iowa). He also played collegiately at Eastern Illinois. Gumbs, who was born in the Virgin Islands, spent 15 games in the Astros Minor League system before collecting stints in the Frontier League, the Texas-Louisiana League and Southeastern League. Gumbs most-recently served as the bench and infield coach with the Texas AirHogs in 2016. Gumbs served as a coach and instructor for the  Palm Springs Power, the Midwest Haymakers, and the Palm Desert Coyotes in the California Winter League from 2014-16. He also served as the director of Houston’s RBI program (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) from 2009-12.
