Abrunzo is from Horseheads, New York where he attended Horseheads High School. During his senior year in high school, Abrunzo avergaed .405 at bat, and lead his team to conference and Section VI Championships with a 19-3 record. 


Abrunzo attended Lackawanna College where he played baseball for two seasons. In his first season with Lackawanna, he helped lead the team to the Division 2 JUCO World Series in Enid, Oklahoma. Overall, he averaged .350 during his two seasons.


 After Lackawanna, Abrunzo played for the University at Buffalo. At UB, Abrunzo started in 94 games and placed a record for second all-time for walks in a single season, totaling 44 BB’s. 


Abrunzo is one of the two assistant coaches for the Swamp Bats this summer. Abrunzo’s experience lies in most heavily in outfielding and hitting. 


“[I] love talking hitting philosophies as well as the many different approaches to hitting both mentally and physically,” Abrunzo said. 


Keene Swamp Bats President Kevin Watterson commented on Abrunzo’s coaching position for the Swamp Bats this summer. “Mike Abrunzo, who hails from upstate NY will backbone what many consider to be the top outfield in the NECBL this year,” Watterson said. 


In the future, Abrunzo hopes to coach collegiate-level baseball with dreams of being a Division 1 head coach. 


“I am very excited to coach alongside Coach Bell this summer as he has put together some great teams in Olean and is a guy that I can learn a lot from and pick his brain on a lot throughout the coaching industry,” Abrunzo said.
