Paul Sasso is the Long Island Sound Baseball Academy’s head pitching instructor and brings almost 40 years of baseball coaching experience to the program, including 10 seasons, starting in 1998, as pitching coach at Molloy College. During his tenure the pitching staff showed steady improvement leading to Molloy’s first ever NYCAC championship in 2004. In 2008, Sasso joined the coaching staff at Holy Trinity High School for two years before becoming the pitching coach at SUNY Maritime College in the Bronx. He entered a program that had compiled a record of 13 wins and 105 loses in its previous five seasons. In each of his five seasons coaching at Maritime, the Privateers qualified for the Skyline Conference Tournament. During the 2014 season, the Privateer pitching staff threw the first two no-hitters in modern SUNY Maritime history, including a perfect game. The 2013 season was particularly successful ending in a deep playoff run that saw Maritime upend fourth-seeded St. Joseph’s and third-seeded Purchase before being eliminated by Old Westbury. Sasso was appointed pitching coach at Kingsborough Community College in 2015. During his two seasons, KCC played in the CUNY Conference Championships, winning the title in 2016 and 2017. Sasso has also served as the head coach of three baseball organizations in Long Island and Brooklyn for 20 years prior to joining the college ranks, winning 15 local and regional championships during that time. |
