David Palmer comes to Newport after a strong spring season at the University of New Haven where the junior was named National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-East Region and tied his career high of 10 strikeouts in one game. Palmer was also named most outstanding player in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship and headed into the NCAA Division 2 East Regional Championships with a record of 8-1 and an ERA of 1.40. As a sophomore, Palmer pitched in 11 games, 3 of which he recorded 7 or more strikeouts and had 2 games where he recorded career high 8 strikeouts. His freshman year, Palmer was named to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Rookie Team.

While at East Islip High School in New York, Palmer finished his career with a 22-6 record. He was named All-County Honors as a junior and a senior as well as All-League accolades for his sophomore, junior and senior years. Palmer is majoring in forensic science at New Haven.
