A walk-off single from Chris Matthews brought home the winning run for the Douglas Diablos (27-36) in a 10-9 victory over the Taos Blizzard at Copper King Park on Thursday.
Matthews racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Douglas Diablos. He singled in the fourth, eighth, and ninth innings.
The two teams combined for 19 runs and 32 hits, including zero extra base hits. There were eight pitchers used in the game as the two managers searched for any way to finish it off.
It was a good day at the plate for the Douglas Diablos' Jean Batista. Batista went 4-5, drove in one and scored two runs. He doubled in the seventh inning and singled in the second, fourth, and ninth innings.
Donavan Rigel got the win, running his season record to 4-1. Rigel struck out two, walked none and gave up no hits.
Evan Kirch (0-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked one, struck out one, and allowed three runs.
