Maikel Jova, 35 years old, was born on March 5th in Villa Clar, Cuba. He starred on the Cuban Junior Olympic team as a kid. After playing baseball in Costa Rica, he signed a contract with the Blue Jays in 2001. In 2006, Jova played with the Blue Jays' Triple-A affilitate, the Syracuse SkyChiefs before continuing his career at the independent level. Jova joined the Pacifics during their inaugural season in 2012 and won the league's most valuable player award. He had a career season in 2015, batting .308 with 45 RBIs, 15 doubles, and 104 hits, a new record for the Pacific Association. Last season also marked Jova's 1500th career hit and 800th career RBI. In addition to playing with the Pacifics, he also serves as the hitting coach. |
