Now in his fourth season as the Wingnuts bench coach, Foltz played his high school baseball at nearby Goddard High School, just west of Wichita. Upon graduating, he played third base, outfield, and pitched at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas.

Foltz began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Goddard in 1986, where he stayed until he became the head man for the Lions in 1995. During his 10 years at the helm, Foltz led Goddard to four State Tournaments, and won a State Championship in 2004, his final season.

During his time at Goddard, Foltz was a two-time Kansas High School Coach of the Year, and coached several players who went on to play collegiately and beyond, including current major leaguer Derek Norris of the Tampa Bay Rays.

Foltz has also spent time in his career as the Athletic Director and Assistant Principal at both Goddard High School and Maize South Middle School. Additionally, he has spent several years mentoring and coaching youth from Wichita and the surrounding areas. During the offseason, Foltz serves an assistant coach for the Maize South High School baseball team.
