Barrett joins the Blue Crabs after spending 2009 with the Yakult Swallows in the Japanese Central League. At Yakult, Barrett pitched 11.1 innings in seven games. Prior to playing in Japan, Barrett was in the Twins organization for seven years, reaching Triple-A Rochester in 2005. In 2008 Barrett went 4-5 with two saves and a 3.21 ERA in 50 games in his fourth season in Rochester. Now in his ninth professional season, Barrett was drafted by the Twins in 2002. He owns a 30-17 career record along with a 3.45 ERA in 206 games professional games.
