Brontsema, a graduate of Santa Barbara High School, just wrapped up his first season with the UC Irvine anteaters.

He appeared in 32 games for Irvine and posted a .188 average with 3 RBI's and 3 extra base hits.

In high school, he was his team's MVP in 2013, team captain, voted all-city, and honored with the All Channel League award. 

His father, Bob, is the former coach of UC Santa Barbara and has coached MLB talent in the likes of Michael Young, Skip Shumaker and Ryan Spilborghs (along with former AppleSox player and current MLB talent Chris Valaika).
