A 10-day signee, Kyle was a sophomore at Pacific University in 2012-13. He was 2-7 with a 3.91 ERA and had 23 strikeouts in 50.2 innings, mostly as a starter.

Kyle had good seasons with the Boxers and the Portland Lobos in 2012. He was 1-2 with a 4.30 ERA in eight games for Pacific, with 15 strikeouts. He then went 3-1 with a 2.14 ERA in 14 games with the Lobos in WCL Portland, with a save and 11 strikeouts in 33 innings.

Kyle was a first-team Skyline Conference all-star in 2011 as a 1B, 3B and RHP at Phoenix High School in Phoenix, Ore. He also made all-conference in football as a defensive end.
