Brett joins the Bluefish for his first year in the Atlantic League and ninth of professional baseball. Last season, the infielder started off with Independent Winnipeg of the American Association, but suffered an injury early in the year and was forced to sit out the 2011 campaign.

The 30-year-old last played professionally in 2010 when he was a member of the Milwaukee Brewers organization, splitting time between Triple-A Nashville and Double-A Huntsville. He began his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers farm system before he joined the San Diego Padres in 2005. The Florida native was with the Padres organization for five years, posting his best season as a professional in 2008 with Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Portland. Split between the two clubs, he recorded career-highs with a .290 batting average, 13 home runs, 50 RBI, 26 doubles and 84 runs scored.

Brett was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the ninth round of the 2003 amateur draft.
