Right-handed reliever Peniel Otaño joins Sioux City from Peravia, Dominican Republic, after four seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. Released in March 2024, Otaño started the season with high-A Hillsboro, posting a 7.64 ERA in 19 appearances. He then moved to A Ball with Visalia, where he went 4-0 with a 1.42 ERA in 13 games. Otaño spent the winter with Vaqueros de Monteria in the Colombian Winter League, recording a 5.68 ERA in seven outings.


In 2023, Otaño spent the entire season with Hillsboro, leading the team in appearances with 39 and saves with four. He posted a 3-5 record and a 6.91 ERA in 56 innings. In 2022, he made 14 starts for Visalia, recording a 3-7 record and a 5.86 ERA in 83 innings. Signed by the Diamondbacks in July 2021, Otaño started 13 of his 14 appearances in his first professional season, posting a 3.05 ERA.


Otaño brings four years of pro experience to Sioux City, with 115 games and 231.2 innings pitched. His ability to toss multiple innings will be valuable for the Explorers in 2025.
