After playing in the San Francisco Giants organization, corner infielder Luis Toribio joins the Explorers. The 24-year-old from San Francisco de Macoris, Dominican Republic, signed with the Giants as an international free agent in 2017. He made his professional debut in 2018 in the Dominican Summer League. In 2024, Toribio played 69 games at AA Richmond, hitting .209 with eight home runs and 33 RBI.
In 2023, Toribio hit .232 with 17 home runs and 61 RBI in 102 games at high-A Eugene. He led the team in home runs and was third in RBI. In 2022, he played a career-high 111 games at Eugene, hitting .209 with 21 home runs and 59 RBI, helping the team win the league pennant.
Toribio spent 2021 at low-A San Jose, hitting .229 with seven home runs and 39 RBI. In 2019, he played 51 games in the Arizona League, hitting .297 with three home runs and 33 RBI. He was named the seventh-rated prospect for the Giants by MLB.com before the 2021 season.
Toribio has hit 66 home runs and driven in 264 runs with a career .236 batting average over six professional seasons. He brings his experience and power to Sioux City for the 2025 season.
