Left-handed pitcher Jaren Jackson returns to Sioux City after making his professional debut for the Explorers in 2024. He began the season in the bullpen and moved to the starting rotation in July, making 11 starts. Jackson joined the Explorers on June 5, 2024, as a free agent from the University of New Mexico. He debuted on June 6, working a third of an inning with a strikeout and a walk. Jackson finished the season with a 2.65 ERA as a reliever and a 6.04 ERA overall, totaling 67 innings with 52 strikeouts and a 1.746 WHIP.


Jackson played two seasons at the University of New Mexico, earning the opening-day start in 2024 and finishing with a 3-5 record and 49 strikeouts in 47.1 innings. In 2023, he started eight of his 12 appearances, ranking fourth on the team with 44.2 innings pitched. Before New Mexico, Jackson pitched three seasons at Pima Community College, earning second-team all-ACCAC honors in 2022. He is a native of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, where he attended Cleveland High School and was named first-team all-state pitcher in 2019 and first baseman in 2018. He played football in high school like his father, who played at UTEP.
