Ohio native Joey Murray returns to the Explorers for a second season in 2025. Murray led the club with 19 starts in 2024, finishing 5-8 with a 5.94 ERA in 94 innings, striking out 86. He was the opening-night starter and earned his first win on May 15. Murray was selected to the American Association All-Star game, pitching one scoreless inning. He signed with the Explorers on May 1, 2024, after spending five years in the Toronto Blue Jays system, reaching AA. Injuries slowed his progress in 2021 and 2022, including Tommy John surgery in 2022.


In 2023, Murray started the season on the 60-day injured list and made rehab appearances in the Florida Complex League and Class A Dunedin. The Blue Jays released him in July 2023. Murray had a promising start to the 2021 season but was shut down due to an elbow strain. In 2019, he posted a combined 2.75 ERA in 137.1 innings across three levels. Drafted in the 8th round of the 2018 MLB Draft, Murray had a stellar collegiate career at Kent State, earning two MAC Pitcher of the Year awards. He was a three-year varsity member at Coffman High School in Dublin, Ohio.
