INF Nick Shumpert joins the Explorers for a second season after hitting .267 with seven home runs and 29 RBI in 2024. He returned to the American Association after previous stops at Cleburne in 2022 and Fargo-Moorhead in 2021, following a stint with the Washington Nationals organization in 2023. Shumpert showed versatility, appearing in 43 games at second base, 39 at shortstop, two at third base, and 10 in the outfield.
In 2024, Shumpert finished fourth in games played (87), fifth in runs scored (54), fourth in doubles (16), third in home runs (7), and second in stolen bases (40). He had two seven-game hitting streaks and a standout playoff performance on September 6.
In 2023, Shumpert played 42 games for Wilmington in the South Atlantic League, hitting .168 with three home runs and seven RBI. He played 91 games for Cleburne in 2022, hitting eight home runs and driving in 50 runs. Shumpert also played in the All-American Baseball Challenge League in 2020, hitting .315.
Shumpert spent parts of three seasons with the Atlanta Braves organization, reaching Triple-A in 2018. The Braves drafted him in the 28th round in 2016 out of San Jacinto College. His father, Terry Shumpert, spent 14 seasons in the Major Leagues, and his cousin is Mookie Betts.
