Nick Shumpert joins the RedHawks in 2021 for his sixth season of professional baseball and first with Fargo-Moorhead. He played with the Sussex County Miners in the All-American Baseball Challenge in 2020, a six-team league composed of Frontier League teams and one-year franchises based around the New York area. In 22 games for the Miners last season, Shumpert hit .315/.374/.528 with 28 hits, six doubles, two triples, and three home runs. He stole 15 bases and was only caught stealing three times in 2020. Shumpert split the 2019 season between Sussex County and the Trinidad Triggers of the Pecos League, hitting a combined .331/.398/.517 with 48 hits, nine doubles, six home runs, 23 RBIs, and 24 stolen bases in 40 games. He was signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers organization in the offseason and released on April 28.

After being selected by Atlanta in the 28th Round of the 2016 MLB Amateur Draft, Shumpert played three seasons in the Braves system before being released before the start of the 2019 season. He reached Triple-A with the Gwinnett Stripers in 2018, going 1-for-6 with a strikeout in 2 games at the end of the season. He hit .224/.272/.332 with 21 doubles, five triples, three home runs, 39 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases in 119 games of affiliated minor league baseball.
