At just 23 years old, Buchanan is the youngest player on the Revs roster. He is also the tallest standing 6-foot-8-inches. Drafted by the Mariners in the 20th round of the 2014 draft, he played two years in the Mariners system before playing for Birmingham-Bloomfield of the United Shore Professional Baseball League in 2016. There he posted a 4.21 ERA and struck out 44 in just 25.2 innings in relief. In his career he averages better than 13 strikeouts-per-nine-innings.

Last season Buchanan reworked his mechanics, and the efforts paid dividends, as he went from throwing a fastball in the high-80s to mid-90s over the course of the campaign. A native of Biloxi, MS, Buchanan was selected to play in the Mississippi High School baseball all-star game, while also being named the offensive MVP of his football team, and leading his basketball team to a state title before going on to play collegiately at Ole Miss.
