Newman joins the Rox coaching staff for his first season as an Assistant Coach.  He was drafted 12th overall by the Montreal Expos in the 1981 MLB Draft.  His major league career spanned from 1985-1992 when he played for the Montreal Expos, Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers.  Newman won two World Series titles (1987 and 1991) during his career. He served as the manager for the Twins Class AA New Britain Rock Cats during the 1996 and 1997 seasons. In 1998 he served as the bench coach of for the Twins Class AAA Salt Lake City Buzz. From 1999 to 2001, Newman was the manager of the Twins rookie league Gulf Coast League Twins. From 2002 to 2005 he served as the Minnesota Twins third base coach.
