BIOGRAPHY: Jacob M. Opitz, 28 years old, was born on July 28, 1986 in Englewood, Colorado. He is a 2004 graduate of Heritage HS where he was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 39th round. Selected as the 2004 Colorado Player of the Year by the Denver Post after batting .529 with 12 home runs and 45 RBI. Jake was also a three year letterwinner in Football. Attended the University of Nebraska where he earned first team All-Big 12 in 2008.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 12th round in 2008. Opitz has spent time in both the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies organizations and has reached the AAA Level. Spent 2013 with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs and Laredo in the American Association
2014 HIGHLIGHTS: Appeared in 129 games for the Blue Crabs in 2014, splitting time at third base and second base. He recorded a batting average of .282 in 573 plate appearences, leading the Blue Crabs in homeruns with 18 and earning an A--Star appearance. He also posted a .985 fielding percentage. Had a combined 7RBI from 9/19-9-21. Jake had a 4RBI game against Camden on June 5th.
